West End has had plenty of weather this last thirty days but when the fishable days came the fish cooperated. The wahoo bite is consistent and has been hinging on the falling barometer. High speed trolling has been effective at 14 knots and the colors have been purple and black for the last two weeks. The bigger boats have been doing better because they get more fishing days but those that put the time in have been rewarded. The dolphin bite has been great and some of the largest bulls and cows of the season have been hitting the West End docks. Both the Wood Cay area and the area six miles east of Old Bahama Bay have been producing. On a north wind, the area has been protected from the strong winds. Now that we are officially in spring weather patterns, the offshore scene will be fantastic.
The bone fishing has been going off also and Capt. Tommy Rolle has been guiding plenty of happy fishermen to the elusive bone. Capt. Rolle has a new flats boat landing on the island this week and is ramping up for the upcoming season.
There are many changes coming to West End this season. The Bahamian Government is working on opening the airport at Old Bahama Bay and both Old Bahama Bay and Blue Marlin Cove Resort and Marina will be having charter air service from places like Witham Field in Stuart and commercial service from West Palm Beach. Blue Marlin Cove is in the process of dredging its inlet to eight feet at MLW and building additional docks. Old Bahama Bay is adding many activities and both hotels are adding charter boats. Everyone here in West End is excited about the upcoming season and these exciting changes.
Hope to see you on the docks soon.
