Grand Bahama Offshore Fishing Forecast – February 2012

With the Gulf Stream waters cooling off, we have seen an increase in the number of large dolphin off of West End, Grand Bahama Island over the last month. The winds have been unusually calm for this time of year, which has allowed large beds of weed to form. The fish are hanging in the weed patches and along weed lines. In these areas we have been getting some nice 30 pound plus fish. I have been real successful with “The Mini-Bullet Head Jets” by Ballyhood Lures. We also have been doing well with skirted ballyhoo along the edge in 300 feet of water. Wahoo fishing is still great and has been best “up north” at The Corner in 250 to 400 feet of water. I still have not caught the Big One this year but we have been pleased with the 30 to 50 pound wahoo that we have been catching with “The Wahoo CowBoys” by Ballyhood Lures, trolling at 12 knots. The fishing in February should continue to be great as we move through the month and head toward spring. The wahoo will be here as well as the mahi-mahi. Don’t forget to check out Leg 2 of the Bahamas Wahoo Championship February 2 to 4. See you at Old Bahama Bay!
