The mix of blue marlin and yellowfin tuna has been exceptionally awesome. Over the past month, we have been seeing large yellowfin tuna ranging in size from 40 to 80 pounds and hearing reports from the Tuna Canyon of days with two and three blue marlin catch and releases. On the days and various times that I have been out, I have found that yellowfin have been best before 10 a.m. and late in the evening around 7 p.m. We have been finding that the early bite has brought nice 50 pound plus fish using an old school cedar plug with a feather skirt over the hook. The bottom fishing has been equally exceptional off of Memory Rock on coral heads in waters of 50 to 90 feet. I have pulled two to three pound yellowtails, along with nice mutton snappers using conch slop and squid. July should continue to be a great month in the offshore waters of Grand Bahama Island. We are only a “short hop, skip and jump” from South Florida and are looking forward to summer days of calm seas and lots of boating and fishing fun, so we hope to see you soon!
