Over the past few weeks, the dolphin bite has really picked up off Memory Rock and points south. During the first part of May, the dolphin and yellowfin tuna bite was very slow; however, we are now starting to see a lot more weedlines and bird activity between Sandy Cay and the Corner with nice size bull dolphin.

During the recent Mike Schmidt Winner’s Circle Invitational tournament at Old Bahama Bay Resort, lots of really nice yellowfin tuna were weighed ranging from 40 pounds, with the largest topping thescales at 54 pounds. Six billfish were also released. Speaking with the anglers during the tournament, most of the tuna was caught in Tuna Canyon using squid and ballyhoo rigged baits.

With the late afternoon weather fronts increasing, the morning bite has been the best all around. Deep dropping off Settlement Point continues to bring in great table fare of silk, yellow-eye and queen snapper.

The outlook for June is continued great fishing with dolphin and tuna as the main courses on the fishing menu.
