Greetings from Blue Marlin Cove Resort & Marina. As summer passes and we move into fall, the tuna and wahoo bite is still strong, especially at Ginger Bread Ground and Great Isaac. The water temperature is in the mid-seventies which is very favorable for both tuna and the wahoo bite. Recently we caught five wahoo and three tuna right on Memory Rock. The largest one was 75 pounds. This was caught on an Eagles Claw # 8 hook, # 8 wire on 40 pound test line.

For those early risers, the morning bite is good but the evening to late bite is always the best time to get the big ones. We are still getting a lot of lobster a couple miles offshore in about 10 to 15 feet of water. By looking for the crevices and holes in the reef you are likely to find the big ones hanging out in these lobster condos. Once again, remember all lobster have to be 3.5 inches long. I recommend Mrs. Shannon’s melted butter for best results….yum!

Mutton snapper are very plentiful one mile offshore in about 20 to 30 feet of water. The best bait is to use is rigged ballyhoo or, if you’re anchored up, cut bait will also work very well. Eagle Claw #6 hooks are suggested. At the end of September a 50 pound yellow fin grouper was caught right out in front of the marina in 30 feet of water. Lastly, the mahi-mahi bite will begin to heat up in October. Once again, we will keep the light on and the grill hot.
