Those anglers familiar with Grand Bahama waters, promise that from West End to East End, the offshore fishing is always terrific in January. The traditional wahoo bite comes on strong, and the Memory Rock and Matanilla Shoal areas are always productive. Fish this month won’t be particularly huge—generally in the 30 to 40 pound range—and should be found in 60 to 100 feet of water. The south side of the island, should not be overlooked, especially if the wind is strong out of the north/northwest due to passing cold fronts. Mahi- mahi will begin to show in some numbers, but once again, not particularly large in size. Still, great for the table! Bottom fishing will produce snapper and assorted grouper.
