Grand Bahama Offshore Fishing Report and Forecast: May 2014

May brings a tuna and dolphin (mahi-mahi) combo to anglers fishing offshore of Grand Bahama. Best areas to target for these two species are Tuna Canyon, a deep trench that lies some 12- to 15-miles due south of Freeport, and Tuna City, a slightly shallower area that lies several miles west of Settlement Point. Watch for terns and frigates working the bait. Where there’s bait, there’s fish. Ballyhoo is my preferred bait to use.

In May, we should see the wind die down, resulting in more “fishable” days.
