The Grand Bahama Sailing Club, dedicated to promoting the national sport of sailing on Grand Bahama Island, incorporated its first fishing tournament, the Wahoo Shootout, into the organization’s year-end fundraising campaign. The Wahoo Shootout was a great success. The tournament structure was simple and straight forward: each rod entered paid a $100 entry fee, the target was wahoo, and the team with the most pounds of wahoo would be declared the winner.
A total of 24 rods and six boats entered the tournament. Local businesses supplied the prize money and deserve special thanks. Prize sponsors included: Gold Rock, Ltd. and Contractors Director, which provided the First Place prize of $1,000; Bahamas Hot Mix and Waugh Construction, Second Place prize of $500.00; and T-N-T Seafood, Third Place prize of $250.
Grand Bahama Sailing Club also included a yearly membership to the yacht club to the first, second and third place winners. In addition to the prize donations, 25% of the entry fees were added to the grand prize.
