[dropcap]S[/dropcap]eems so many folks don’t think Gulf fishing is good for speckled trout in the HOT summer…well, we have been killing the trout ..provided we had a breeze. Several trips lately have brought in 20 trout weighing between 30-40 pounds! We are fishing with live pinfish and pigfish rigged up under Back Bay Thunders. I fish ten pound test Trik Fish Game Green line on Penn 4000 Battle spinning reels matched with Star Stellar Lite Fast Taper 7’6” rods( SG817FT76) We can reach out and cast easily over 100 ft. away to trick wary Sow trout in the clearing water. I rig up my live pinfish on a 5/0 straight shank worm hook suspended 32” under a Back Bay Thunder. For leaders I use Trik Fish 30# clear mono as I have yet to find a Keaton Beach trout which required fluorocarbon? Not saying don’t use it….just sayin’?

We have also tricked some trout on Assassin’s five inch shads in Sand Trout, Violet Moon, Stinky Pink, and Candy Corn. I mostly rig this bait on an Assassin Pro Elite 1/16 oz. jighead 32” under an Original Cajun Thunder.

We have caught fish in as much as 7 feet on the calmer days, but are still getting
Expect August to hold the same patterns for hot weather trout and remember to keep your bait fresh and don’t think you can have too many. I use 150 -200 most days, on board One More Cast, this time of year.

Reds have been tougher than tough to find….mostly we haven’t. I have been con- centrating on catching larger trout rather than running all over creation hoping to run into reds. If you do find some reds toss them a MirrOlure She Dog or a Precision Tackle Thunder-Spin jigspinner or an Intruder weedless spoon in Copper or Gold.

Meanwhile…LET”S Go Fishing!
