Lake Lanier Crappie Fishing Report: May 2014

By Tracy Tompkins

Water temperature is in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. Crappie are everywhere! Up the river around Don Carter Park, the little pockets on both sides have a lot of fish in them. Squirrel Creek and the back of WahooCreek along with Sardis Park is a great place to take a kid and let them get their fair share of crappie. A bobber with a minnow or a jig in any color about 2 to 3 feet down is the way to go. A lot of fish have already spawned and moved to a little deeper water. Shooting docks in 10 to 20 feet of water is getting a lot of good fish. Use the count down method, starting at 1 and count until you start getting a hit. Drifting is working also. Start in 20 feet and go shallow and fish your minnow 3 to 12 feet down.
