PRESS RELEASE—NASSAU, BAHAMAS—Twelve boats, ranging in size from 26 to 60 feet, with 60 anglers fished Leg 1 of Lightbourne Marine’s Fifth Annual Wahoo Challenge on Saturday Dec. 10, 2011.
Anglers left Hurricane Hole on Paradise Island at 6 a.m. and took off for an anticipated day of intense high speed trolling from Abaco and Andros to the Berrys, Eleuthera and the Exuma Sound for the coveted game fish. Confronted with choppy seas, the crews gave it everything they had up to weigh-in time at 4 p.m., when one by one they pulled in to Hurricane Hole to tally up their four heaviest wahoo.
Team “Rook”, on 44’ Ryco, placed first with 169.8 lbs, and 45’ Cabo “D’Fish N’Seas” placed second with 139.7 lbs. The largest wahoo was 61.2lbs, brought to the dock by Devon Hepburn onboard “Rook”.
Rachel Lightbourne, tournament organizer and IGFA Nassau representative, remarked “Everyone was eager to fish. The seas were a bit of a challenge on Saturday, but if you ask any of the 60 anglers who participated, they’ll tell you straight that it comes with the territory of fishing for wahoo.”
Lightbourne invites additional boats to join in on the second leg, which is scheduled for January 28, 2012. Tournament prizes include a Mercury 10’ Rigid Inflatable boat with 9.9 hp Mercury engine, marine life artwork, Costa Del Mar Shades, and more.
Tournament sponsors include: Graham Real Estate, Green Parrot Bar & Grill, Sands Beer, Bahamas Wholesale Agency, and Panama Jack.
