[dropcap]D[/dropcap]uring the month of August the water temperatures will move into the high 80’s. The daytime bite should slow down and the night time bite should heat up for anglers using cut eels and live minnows, as well as live bream, using a Carolina rig set-up with a cork on the leader line to the hook. The fish should bite better late evenings and through the night. Start looking for deep holes as the fish will be in the cooler, deeper water. Crappie fishing should still be great, with bigger fish being caught on minnows and jigs this month. Try fishing around brush piles and downed trees. If we get a lot of rain and the river is very high, fish in the back of the creeks. Bream fishing should still be good up on live bait such as crickets, red worms and wax worms, etc. I also love to use artificials like the Beetle Spin. This action should get hot. Great places to start are near structure sticking out of the river such as trees, bridge pilings, rubbish, etc. Bream like to hang around those areas!
Largemouth bass fishing should be good this month on jumbo minnows, soft plastics and crank baits. Small bass love night crawlers, so if you have kids, this is a good month to bass fish this part of the river with them. Also, start throwing your topwater baits. They, plus buzz baits and spooks, will work well this month.
We had our first ever Bream Tournament and had a great turnout with 29 adults and 8 children! It looks like this could happen again real soon.
