Summertime is a quiet time on Long Island. The inland flats are mostly empty of fishermen but there are plenty of fish! They don’t know that it is the off season. There is virtually no pressure on the fish. Besides grey ghosts, the amount of mangrove snapper, barracuda, jacks and sharks will give you thrills whether on fly rod or spinning gear. Yes, it is hurricane season, but that is no reason to stay away.

We will be seeing larger fish on the flats with early morning and late evening being very productive. Although daytime temperatures are in the upper 80’s, there is always a cooling breeze.

There is lots to see and do on Long Island so combine your family vacation with your fly fishing. Rent a vehicle and try all the flats available for the DIY fisherman. Fish in the morning, then take the family exploring the island, take a cave tour, visit a historic site and more. Also, one or two days of deep sea fishing will be fun for the whole family so check out Long Island. It’s a one of a kind island adventure.
