PHoto 2-webThe peak season for bonefishing is almost over and the winter fishermen have left the flats for those mountain streams and lakes. Trout steelhead and salmon are on their minds and that leaves the flats empty of fishermen. This is the time now to have all these flats to yourself. With a gentle breeze blowing, the flats are comfortable, not as hot as you might think. The flats have an abundance of fish that are not as “spooky” as a few weeks back. They have not seen a fly in a while so your daily catch will surely increase. Now that the spawning season is over we are now seeing a lot more larger fish on the inside flats, so you will not need to travel to the ocean flats for chances at big bonefish. This is also a great time to bring your family, with early morning fishing and late afternoon you can spend the late morning and early afternoon with family. Barracuda are still in abundance on the flats, which will bring some real excitement for the young ones. Summer offers picnics for your family on the many cays while you fish the flats. Also, reef fishing is exceptional this time of year with an abundance of yellowtail and snapper found around wrecks and structures. Small tackle fishing with family, along with a few hours bonefishing on the flats, is hard to beat. Bring your usual tackle and flies. All still work really well, just add a few smaller #8 flies. Come on down and enjoy your summer!
