With cooler water than expected for this time of the year, fishing has presented some challenges in the Lower Bahamas. The good news is yellowfin tuna are still around in San Salvador, with some exceeding 130 pounds. Wahoo are still making an appearance, although most are in the smaller 20-to-30 pound range. There are definitely plenty around and they can be caught on almost every trip. The marlin bite has been scattered; however, fishing this time of the year can produce some nice fish from Sandy Point in San Salvador to the northeast point of Rum Key. There have been some big fish caught, with multiple fish being seen in the spread on many days.
Several blue marlin have been reported caught around Columbus Point off Cat Island. The water looks real good and the fishing numbers should increase throughout the lower islands over the next month.
