Lower Bahamas Fishing Forecast – September 2011

During September, San Salvador, Rum Cay and Cat Cay, are great islands to visit and fish while waiting for cooler October weather. Blue marlin are usually still abundant and this autumn is not going to disappoint us. Several boats fishing the area have experienced fishing days where six or more blues have shown up behind the boat. Fishing Sandy Point across the Bridge to the northeast point of Rum is always a producer. Plastics will work just find. Also, the tuna have made a showing this month, with some nice yellowfin being hooked. Try to find some live bait or talk to one of the local guides. With the cooler water hanging around the island this season, the wahoo are still in the mix and will be hitting your marlin baits so expect the unexpected!

Despite all the good fishing you won’t have a lot of boat traffic to contend with and for a good reason—it’s still hurricane season. Always be prepared, have heavier lines with you, and keep your fuel tanks topped in the event that a storm gets too close for comfort. By being prepared, you can safely enjoy great fishing even during the “H” season.
