Lure of the Month: MOREAU DROP SPIN

MOREAU-DROP-SPIN

As bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee and near-by lakes moves away from fishing the shallow waters of the spawning beds and into deeper waters, we find ourselves needing a ‘search’ lure to cover greater expanses of water and varying depths. That brings us to the crankbait section of our tackle box. In this section we have lipped and lipless style baits. For submerged grass beds and reed-line edges, a lipless lure is a good choice.

THEN THERE IS MOREAU BAIT’S DROP SPIN BAIT SERIES WHICH COMBINES A PANFISH PROFILED CRANKBAIT AND A SPINNER BLADE TO MAKE A BASS ATTRACTING MAGNET.

Most lipless lures have the tag-line eye positioned on the top of the lure which makes the lure feel more like a jig than a swim bait. Then there is Moreau Bait’s Drop Spin Bait Series which combines a panfish profiled crankbait and a spinner blade to make a bass attracting magnet. Unique among lipless crankbaits, the Moreau Drop Spin places the tag-line eye just under the center mouth of the lure which results in a more natural presentation. To add movement and flash, a Colorado blade is attached as the lure’s tail fin creating a tail fluttering action as the lure sinks or is retrieved.

The Moreau Drop Spin Series is available in three styles, the Slab Drop (3” Body, 0.7oz), the Drop Spin Vicious Strike (3” Body, 0.8oz), and the Drop Spin Tournament Series (2.5” Body, 0.5oz). As a premium lure, the bodies have incredible life-like detail and are made of high-quality materials. The series was great fishing versatility. As a sinking lure, the bait maintains a natural horizontal position as it drops down to suspended fish. With a sink rate of approximately 1-ft per second, it’s easy to place the lure in the strike zone no matter what depth the fish is at. It can be yo-yo’d, twitched, darted, or dog walked in deep water or waked just under the surface. They are available in panfish and baitfish colors such as Bluegill, Shad, Black Steel, Sexy Blue and Golby. As a premium handcrafted lure with life-like colors, the price point generally restricts availability to high-end tackle shops and the web. If not available at your local tackle retailer, then try Maoreau’s website at http://www.moreaubaits.com.
