The 3rd tournament of the 2015 Bossman Redfish Series finally brought some warmer weather along with 46 teams. The first place cash prize of $2,760 went to Heather Metchick & Greg Geiselman with a total of 14.67lbs. They also were awarded the Big Fish Calcutta of $800 along with the Lady Angler $150 prize with a record breaking Red weighing in at 7.9lbs. Second place of $1,104, weighing in with 14.28lbs, went to Gary Bell & Brian Willard. Placing third & taking home $828 was Aaron Dill & Pat Preston with a total weight of 14.16lbs. Fourth place awarded Kyle Wood & Nick Poza $552, with 13.56lbs. Matt Preston & Mark Norman placed fifth with 13.17lbs & they took home $276. Junior Angler prize of $50 went to Matt Brockman with a Red weighing in at 5.47lbs. The next tournament is scheduled for April 11th at The Fishing Store/ Outriggerâs Tiki Bar & Grille.
TAGGING UPDATE With the 2015 Bossman Redfish Series now half over, a total of 148 Redfish have been tagged & released. This past monthâs tournament brought along some interesting news regarding the tagging program with a tournament team catching two tagged Redfish on back to back casts. One of the fish was tagged at the January 10th tournament & the other at the February 14th tournament. Both fish were originally released at the dock at The Fishing Store in New Smyrna Beach & recaptured approximately eight miles south. According to the anglers, both fish were in great condition. A total of seven Bossman Tournament tagged Redfish have now been recaptured & reported, with six of them going south. These findings have strengthened Bossmanâs belief in the Redfish tagging program. At this point, Bossman Boats would like to complete this seasonâs tagging at the remaining two tournaments. Unfortunately, there are no more tags through the State of Louisianaâs Coastal Conservation Association. TOURNAMENT WITHIN TOURNAMENT
The Bossman Redfish Series is a series of five tournaments, one per month starting in January. Anglers are vying for the âTeam of the Yearâ title and a Brand New 2015 Bossman TailSpotter Guide Edition Package valued at over $26,000. So far just three tournaments in and over $15,000 in cash has been awarded, not to mention the other prizes given away. The most important thing to understand is you can fish for just one tournament, two, three, whatever fits your schedule or style and at any point you like. There are two more tournaments this year, one on April 11th and the last one on May 9th. All you have to do is show up at New Smyrna Marina 30 minutes before sunrise (6AM ish to launch your boat, park and then register) on either one of those dates or both. Pay cash entrants fee of $160 per team, fish, bring fish to weigh in and collect your money. It really is that easy. And by all means if you canât make it to fish the tournament absolutely do not miss the weigh in starting at 2pm.
