Summer is around the corner and we can feel it in the air. Warm weather and shining sun though is something many thought they might never see again. After the most grueling winter Boston has ever seen, crushing snowfall records and leaving people stuck in their homes for days at a time, damage was done across New England not only to roads but properties as well. Though it’s hard to remember now what it was like, the Commonwealth is working tirelessly today reconstructing what was affected this past winter. Marina Bay, Boston Harbor’s flagship marina was one of the locations destroyed this winter leaving it cracked and crumbling. Both the east and west marinas felt the impact of the extreme weather conditions and are currently undergoing reconstruction.
A little over one month ago icebreakers took charge in Marina Bay. The large machines moved in and took back what belonged to the residents and visitors, clearing the area of the frozen sheet and making way for construction to begin. The marina is currently functioning but still undergoing construction with an expected full completion sometime in July.
After 110.6” of snow, Boston is still fighting back. It is easy to become wrapped up in the beauty of the warmth and sunshine, however it’s important to remember the effect that winters like this one have. The reconstruction of Marina Bay is working to make the marina even better than before and looks forward to making even more summer memories with children and adults alike.
