It’s November in Stuart, Florida and as the temperatures drop the fishing heats up. Great fishing takes place off the Martin County coast during winter months and November marks the arrival of sailfish, dolphin, wahoo and bottom fish in large numbers.

Typically during the month of November, you can expect two to six sailfish bites a day trolling dead ballyhoo, with some great days mixed in with double digit bites. On top of the sailfish action, great dolphin fishing takes place and it is not uncommon to catch 20 plus mahi-mahi in a day. Methods best used fishing off of the St. Lucie Inlet and to the north early in the season would be trolling a spread of naked circle hook rigged ballyhoo, which are staggered around teasers known as dredges and which replicate schools of baitfish.

After a few passing fronts and some northeast ground swell, big grouper, and lots of them, arrive on the local reefs and wrecks to spawn. The season remains open until January 1st and fishing is world class for these tasty bruisers. It is not uncommon to catch a limit of BIG gag grouper in a couple hours of fishing. The minimum size limit for gag grouper is 24 inches and the bag limit is one per person. Most of the fish caught off the shores of Martin County are going to be from 15 to 35 pounds in weight. Live blue runners, grunts and cut bait work best.

So grab your jacket and your camera and come catch some great fishing action out of Stuart, located on Florida’s Treasure Coast.
