The last month has been a whirlwind to say the least. In the last 30 days, we’ve been to ICAST, attended our annual Franchisee Convention, fished a couple of tournaments and put two magazine deadlines behind us. We certainly hope that our readers are enjoying our FREE publication.
September is a great month to fish in Miami. Bigger kingfish will be moving in on the reefs and the offshore bite for mahi mahi should start to heat up. If the daytime temperatures are too much for you, the night bite will be off the chain. Look for big mangrove and yellowtail snappers to be biting good in 50 to 80 feet of water. Bring lots of chum and be sure that your chum bag has the bigger holes. You’ll want to have a few 12 to 15 pound spinning outfits rigged and ready to go. Tie your main line to a 3 to 4 foot length of fluorocarbon leader and attach a 1/0 circle hook or yellowtail jig to the business end. The best baits are live shrimp, small pieces of filleted ballyhoo, bonito chunks or strips and silversides. There will still be some good size mutton snapper around too. Rig a 20 pound spinning outfit with 3 to 4 ounces of lead above the swivel and tie on at least 15 feet of fluorocarbon leader. Use a 3/0 to 4/0 J hook for the best results. Your best baits are plugged ballyhoo, sardines or half of a dead goggle eye.
Keep reelin,
