The wahoo bite is in full swing during the month of January and February. As the cold fronts continue to push further through the Central Bahamas they will continue to bring the wahoo into our waters, especially the bigger ones. The bite has been great so far with a fair number of fish up to 70 pounds. Of course, at this time of the year you will have the regular ‘cudas and kingfish. There will be plenty of “rod bending action”.

The ledges are where you want to be trolling for the best bite. Those drop-offs are where the pelagic species come to feed. Naked ballyhoo or with skirts and your standard wahoo lures is the best way to go. Don’t forget to ramp up your trolling speed. Wahoo are one of the fastest fish in the sea and really like to chase their dinner! The weather should be fair and with a few cold spells. One thing about fishing from an island is that there is always a ‘lee side” to get out of heavy sea conditions. The wahoo will be jumping in the boat so you do not have to be an expert fisherman to enjoy some great action! So come on down to Nassau/Paradise Island and get in on the action on the Reel Deal.
