Greetings everyone. Unexpected cold fronts in March have not stopped diving and snorkeling activities around Harbour Island and North Eleuthera. Snorkeling in the shallows has yielded exciting encounters highlighted by turtles, juvenile sharks, eels, including one that was feeding and tried to bite my camera lens, grouper, stingrays and the occasional eagle ray. Also, lots of smaller critters such as crabs, coral shrimp and flamingo tongue. These are great for macro shots for the underwater camera buffs. Diving in April will be exciting as we expect plenty of sightings of eagle rays, horseeyed jacks and sharks. Recent Current Cut dives have produced large numbers of eagle rays (over 30 on one pass recently). As well, we expect more turtles, tarpon and squid encounters. Dolphin interactions, although not guaranteed, are also expected to increase as April and the summer weather approaches. Recently we had three bottlenose dolphins play with our customers and crew for over 40 minutes. They just kept coming back to us and got so close you could almost touch them. Magic moments for all of us.
As water temperatures slowly rise to 76 degrees in April, diving/snorkeling will become more comfortable and wet-suits will become optional as summer arrives.
While on Harbour Island, come enjoy the world class pink sand beach that never gets hot on your feet, just your thirst!!
