July is one of the peak times for diving in the waters of North Eleuthera and Harbour Island. Water temperatures should be in the neighborhood of 82 to 83 degrees. With lighter wind days ahead, the absence of wetsuits becomes more common for divers and snorkelers. We should see plenty of nurse sharks, as well as green and hawksbill sea turtles being encountered, quite often in the shallows. More big animals are likely to come cruising by this time of year. Encountering a great hammerhead shark or bottlenose dolphin in our area is very likely and always a thrill for the guest. We have already had several exciting and relatively long in water encounters in June.
Recently, the variety of creatures being spotted has been fantastic. Regular octopus sightings along with eels, lobster, filefish, stingrays, shrimp, crabs, barracuda, trumpetfish, squid and more are often the norm now. Whether its children or seniors, this area has something for every age. Come try diving, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding or go for a cruise. Take a relaxing walk along the uncrowded pink sand beaches and decide whether to take an ocean dip or a fresh water dip in one of the fine resort’s pools. Maybe enjoy one of the many fine restaurants to go for a cool beverage or tasty meal or perhaps you want to catch your own meal; well Harbour Island and North Eleuthera will do the trick! Come visit soon!
