[dropcap]E[/dropcap]xcitement of all kinds will ring in March! Spring breaks and Easter vacations will bring in plenty of yachts and people from all over the world to enjoy the wide variety of diving and snorkeling that North Eleuthera has to offer. Water temperatures should range from 73 to 77 degrees while air temperatures will average around 78 to 80 degrees, requiring full 3mm wetsuits to remain comfortable when diving. We have seen a lot fewer sharks around on our dives, but other large animals, such as eagle rays, turtles, sting rays, eels, and octopus have been abundant and very rewarding to dive or snorkel with and get close for some great photo/video opportunities. The weather and several cold fronts have limited February diving sites so let’s hope in March the weather improves to open up sites that make diving around Harbour Island and Current area very interesting. Gina (local manatee) and her new born pup have been sighted on several occasions around Harbour Island and Spanish Wells. Just this past week various organizations, including biologists and an instructor from Valentines Dive Center, were instrumental in cutting away some damaging fishing line from one of the pups, which was digging into her body, as she is still growing. Gina weighs in at close to 1400 pounds and is as gentle a creature as you can imagine. Let’s ensure as boaters we are practicing eco friendly methods of dealing with our trash.

So let’s get active, and we’ll see you on the ocean very soon to enjoy the special wonders under the waves!
