[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ell the dog days of summer are slowly coming to a end and to be honest it’s been a great year for fishing here at the beach. In working at End of the line bait shop it gives me a unique opportunity to hear all of the great stories by locals and visitors alike and one thing they have all agreed upon was that this has been one of the best summers for fishing in several years.

From the lagoon to the inlet and all along the ocean people have been catching many types of fish and some have even been worth bragging about. For the most part in the surf lately it’s been a ton of whiting as well as a few sand perch and croaker. For some odd reason there has still been some big bluefish caught as well as some keeper pompano. For best results shrimp, clams and cut bait have all worked well. Of course all types of shark are still around and with shark week going on I’m thinking maybe just maybe someone will catch a big one to impress the locals. Lately it’s been shovel head, black tip, and the occasional spinner being caught.

The big news from this part of the state is that the Tarpon are back and have been seen off the shore. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time be- fore they make they’re way into the lagoon. To me the best story of the month comes from a little old Joe Richmond of Ocala Fl. I had heard of some big bull Redfish being in the surf and sure enough here’s a pic to prove it. This 52 inch 55 lb beauty was caught just off the beach near Ponce inlet and as you can see it was a handful. I’m betting he’s a future captain or at least a fisherman for life after this catch.

I hope everyone has had a great and fun summer out there enjoying the water and what Mother Nature has to offer us. We are lucky to have such a wonderful place to live and fish in here at the beach of SE Volusia county.
