October’s Opportunities

By: Capt. Roan Z

I am personally not sure there is a better month to fish Southwest Florida.  From freshwater to saltwater, you just cannot go wrong as snook, redfish, and tarpon abound up and down our coastline. Baitfish are plentiful near our passes and inshore bays.  Tarpon are starting their southern migration.  Redfish are hoarding up in our passes and in the bays near the outside passes. Snook are everywhere from the beaches to the backs of creeks.  Just about every different lure type works from top to bottom.  Some of my favorites are The Macro Minnow the Proshad Jig Head with a Wyze Guyz Underboss soft Plastic. Or just a buck and bunny bucktail from Reel Nautical.   In Fresh water, the Largemouth will be perking up coming out of the summer doldrums and the peacocks and cichlids will be ravenous to put on some weight before the water cool off over the winter.  Lake fishing will be on fire, and the canal fishing should start to really pick up especially if the water starts to recede from the marshes into the canals in the Glades.  Largemouth and peacock bass will be feeding heavily especially if you can locate some marsh runs dumping water into the main canals.  Favorite baits for all of this would be the Reel Nautical Micro or Macro Minnows.  If you are looking for an extra big fish, try the Mega minnow especially in Gold Member color.  October is when the Stone Crab traps go out so run those lines and look for them beautiful and delicious tripletail.  They love our Reel Nautical 1/8 oz. foxy lady jig, or our new crab jig crushed it. Rich and Roan would like to invite you to check them out at one of the local Bait and Tackle stores like Mikes Bait House, Marco Island Bait and Tackle, Estero River Outfitters, Kraken Tackle of Ft Myers, and The Bait Shop of Lake Placid.  or check them out online at www.reelnautical.net or drop us an email: reelnautical239@gmail.com
