Offshore, Nearshore

Capt. Bill D’Antuono

The clarity of the water has been great and is almost as good as the fishing.  On recent trips we have finding large-sized red grouper and mangrove snapper with a few solid black grouper mixed in.  Red grouper have moved in close, with the shallowest reported keeper being at 45 feet.  I usually fish in over 100 feet because the possibilities are endless if you find a honey hole.  Some lucky anglers have been finding cobia nearshore and the permit fishing has been fantastic! Put some time in and get offshore and you will be rewarded with some nice fish!

Amberjack season is in full swing and they provide a nice smoked fish meal. Target AJs on wrecks or nice live bottom ledges or springs and be ready for a battle. I use a 4oz jig with a plastic worm tail, jigged very quickly this seems to do the trick.
