Fayetteville Veteran To Receive Outdoors Mobility With Tracked Wheel Chair
On Oct. 3, The Fayetteville program of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) will present local veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Emil Walsh with a Trac-Fab Tracked Wheelchair.
A group of anonymous donors has provided the Trac-Fab chair that will give Walsh more mobility to participate in outdoor activities such as fly fishing. Walsh was selected to receive the chair by a committee at PHWFF’s National Headquarters from a number of eligible applicants. His selection was based on his need as a result of injuries sustained while deployed to Iraq in 2007 with Fort Bragg’s 82nd Airborne Division.
The presentation will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. at the Pechmann Fishing Education Center at 7489 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, N.C. 28304. There will be a reception following the ceremony inside the center’s classroom.
The Fayetteville program of PHWFF was activated in 2013. The program is sponsored by the Sandhills Flycaster’s Foundation and supported through activities at the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission’s Pechmann Fishing Education Center. Program lead Tom Carpenter said, “Through these partnerships, we have been able to serve more than 50 injured service members and disabled veterans over the past two years. We have provided a number of activities designed to assist with their physical and emotional recovery that include fly-casting instruction, fly-tying, rod building and many local and overnight fishing outings.”
Funds for these programs are collected at the PHWFF National Headquarters and all activities are provided at no cost to the veteran.
