Palm Beach Inshore & Offshore: Dec. 2019

By Capt. Weston Russell, Contributing Writer

Let’s start with the inshore bite. The Palm Beach Inlet will be a hot spot for jacks, permit, and sheepshead. Light tackle is the key where a Daiwa Saltist 5000 will get the job done. Live shrimp on a light pink leader will fool the bigger ones. Start your drift up current and drop it down.

The offshore bite will be determined by cold fronts entering our area. The coldest days will produce strong bites from sailfish and dolphin. Also, expect wahoo in the mix. Live bait is a must, and this can be bought from your local bait boat.  You can call them on VHF 68, but it’s best to get their cell number and place the order the evening before (just to make sure you get yours).  After the bait meet up head east to the edge and put the kite out, or flat lines, it’s your choice. Don’t forget to have one deep with wire for that wahoo.

Reef anglers, there will be opportunities for snapper in December. The area off Juno Beach will hold mutton and yellowtail inside the edge, with vermillion east of the edge in deeper water. Presentation is everything when bottom fishing. Make sure to feed the bait to the fish. A good 4 count before you lock up the reel, that’s what works for us at Reelintensefishing.com.  Good luck and tight lines!
