Other than the water being down due to drought conditions the fishing has been pretty good. The shell crackers bedded pretty good off of Tracy’s Point early in the month and the bluegills started up some around Easter. The water is clear and the beds are easy to see but you have to fish the holes in the peppergrass and that can take a little patients. Evan Merritt, Tonya Merritt, Darrell Chandler and Greggy Mills caught a nice catch of real big shellcrackers using red worms. Jim Maddox and Randy Doty have been caching a lot of bass from 3 to 5 pounds using zoom worms and Heddon Pop-N-Images.
Best Bets for May: The bluegill and shell crackers will continue on in May. I would keep an eye out for around the mouth of the Outlet. That is a good place for the panfish to gather up when the water is down. Top water action for bass will pick up in May. Zoom Horny Toads and Gambler Cane Toads pulled over top of the peppergrass beds should produce some nice bass and the top water action will pick up as well. Early in the morning before the sun gets too bright might be your best bet for the bass.
