Panacea Fishing Report: Oct 2013

We are coming into October and the rain has finally slowed, there have been numerous calm days to run o shore and the fish have cooperated. Gag grouper season continues in Federal waters until December 3rd.

Limits have been reported out past Marker 24, K & O towers and beyond.

Recreational Red Snapper season will open on October 1st and remain open in Federal waters through October 14th, State waters till October 21st. You are allowed to keep 2 fish per harvester,minimum 16 inches total length(which means a pinched tail) and you are required to use circle hooks and dehooking devices on all reef fishes but as of September 3,2013 a venting tool is no longer required.

Out near Piney island and Ochlockonee Shoals the water is clearing up and the trout bite is getting more active on lightly weighted so baits especially near all the bait schools moving through. Redfish are slamming topwater plugs and Aqua Dream spoons in a variety of colors. September has started the time of year to hit the woods for hunting seasons but remember hunting season is open year round in the Gulf,hunting  fish! Tight lines!
