Alabama Gulf Coast Fishing Report: April 2014
The water has been a bit cool in March. Therefore the fishing action was a little slower. It is warming and the Spanish mackerel have appeared. Isolated king mackerel have also been caught. April fishing on the Alabama Gulf Coast should be great. We should expect warmer water and more activity. King mackerel and Spanish mackerel should be caught nearshore. Cobia should be cruising near the beach. Farther offshore you should find amberjack. Any type of live bait should attract an amberjack. You can also fish cut squid for triggerfish, vermillion snapper and white snapper. Scamp grouper and red grouper will be found in deeper water around 180 feet. Winter will not give up this year. Water temps are headed for the 60's and it looks like we are beginning the migration patterns. There is plenty of saltwater headed for the causeway it's just too cool right now. On the coast, Spanish Mackerel will be starting to move this month along with the Pompano. Keep an eye out for Cobia and King Mackerel to follow. Bull Reds are around the passes if you're looking for a fight. Inshore, the shoals and grass flats along Dauphin Island, Shell Bank Reef, and the rigs inside the bay are a good bet for Specs. Reds will be cruising the shore line and oyster bars.Apr 1st, 2014

With warmer temperatures day and night, the Island and Bay area fishing has heated up after a long, cold, wet, nasty winter. The bait fish and shrimp will be on the move and the specks will follow; The local bait shops now have good live shrimp and its worth your time to get a few for your trip. Fish these under a rattling cork or popping cork with a #8 bronze treble hook on about 2 feet of mono leader; I use 12 pound mono or flouro leader, the lighter the better. Apr 1st, 2014

Is it summer yet? God, I hope so! This hasn’t been the coldest or wettest winter I can remember, but then again, every time the temperature drops below 60 degrees I just want to crawl up into my cave and hibernate until the sun comes back out ad warms our world up again. Mobile Bay Fishing Report: March 2014
The month of March already! March madness is in the air. The fish are wanting to transition into the coming spring time patterns, but there is still plenty of cold muddy water pouring out of the Mobile river. March can usually be one of the harder months to fish. The trout seem to dissapear for days on before you can get on a good bite.
