By Capt. Jamie Thrappas, Yellow Dawg Fishing
November is close to a carbon copy of October except for a few chillier days towards the end of the month. As the mullet run winds down the fish will be hungry so don’t miss out on this opportunity. I love fishing early morning and right before sunset this time of the year but due to the cooler temperatures you can fish all day!
I would recommend targeting bull reds in the beginning of the month using blue crab, big live pinfish, or cut mullet. I like to hunt for these fish on side scan and set up ahead of them in current. Outgoing tide is my preferred tide but I do get a bunch of nice fish on that first hour of incoming and the last hour of incoming. The inlet usually is my go to but don’t be afraid to check for them around the causeway bridges, as I have certainly caught some nice fish north around Dunlawton and also the NSB bridges. The snook bite will also be hot in November as well. I like to target these fish with live croaker during the day and drift outgoing tides near structure when I find them schooled up. Nighttime snook fishing will also be prime time this month, and while I’ve caught my fair share on incoming tides, the first couple hours of high tide switching to outgoing is certainly the most productive.
My go to bait for night snook fishing is certainly live large shrimp on 40lb fluorocarbon with a 3/0 or 4/0 circle hook. Lastly towards the end of the month the larger black drum will be something I like to target. Very similar to searching for bull reds I like to target these big uglies with halved blue crab. Get out there and enjoy the fall weather and have some fun. As always if you see us out there say hello and give me a shout if you’d like to book a trip!
