The Bridge is an underwater structure that connects the southeast tip of Eleuthera (a.k.a. Lighthouse Point) with the island of Little San Salvador, about 11 miles due east. Recently, Coastal Angler Magazine – Bahamas contributor Al Curry conducted an exploratory drift dive on the south wall of The Bridge. Accompanying him was Dr. Steve Bailey of Spanish Wells. An avid diver, Dr. Steve and his wife Laura (a nurse) have been providing medical services on Spanish Wells for 16 years. Ocean Fox Cotton Bay Diving is the only dive operation that conducts drift dives regularly on The Bridge.

“The weather has to be good as you are in the open ocean. Your position on The Bridge to initiate a dive is conditioned on the tide either falling or rising so it can be a little tricky. Nevertheless, it is a spectacular dive. Our usual plan is a two tank dive which usually lasts 35 to 45 minutes each with water depths ranging from 25 to 60 feet with lots of hills and valleys. Visibility is usually not less than 100 feet and typically greater. The coral formations are very large, quite pristine and absolutely incredible to see. This is an absolute ‘must do’ dive adventure,” promises Al.
