Tournament weigh-ins can be filled with excitement, pressure or disaster. Don’t spring your catch. The disaster I speak of is dropping your fish on the deck or even worse, in the water.Editorial Staff
I have always considered surf fishing to be the best of both worlds – you get to enjoy fun in the sun at the beach while you also have a shot at catching some really nice fish, one of which is the Florida pompano (Trachinotus carolinus). Editorial Staff

Most hard baits have two or three treble hooks. The problem with this setup is large fish and lengthy fights can cause those tiny hooks to open up or tear from a fish’s lip. We all know this loss hurts. The bigger the fish, the worse it hurts and the more likely it is to happen. I came up with a solution for this scenario several years ago while targeting giant tarpon. I adapted my hard baits to use a single large hook. It resulted in the successful landing of more big fish than with the original hardware.Patrick Sebile
