South Eleuthera Dive Forecast – January 2012

January is one of the most outstanding months of the whole year to dive in South Eleuthera. Water temperatures have dropped to the mid-seventies, there is no possibility of an algae bloom and the dry season has arrived so there is no run-off from heavy rain. Due to these factors, the visibility is almost always over 100 feet. The Wall sites off Cape Eleuthera, such as “Hole in the Wall” and the “Smugglers Plane Wreck”, are almost always current free, and huge schools of pelagic spotted eagle rays are almost a norm this month. The world famous “Island School Cobia Cage” is back up and running this month, fully stocked with over four thousand cobia. Because of the twice a day feeding that occurs to grow the cobia, and the fact that the site is right on the edge of the Exuma Sound Wall, huge schools of inshore and pelagic fish are always on hand for viewing and observation enjoyment. January is one of the best months for a visit to South Eleuthera for a great diving adventure!
