South Eleuthera Dive Forecast – July 2011

July is finally here and we are in the full blown summer season in South Eleuthera. That means clear water, warm water and calm seas. Hooray! Visibility averages 100-plus feet, and the water temps are 82-to-84 F. My 3mm wetsuit has been retired until next winter (a very good thing), and it is bikinis and board shorts for a good couple of months.

The silversides are covering all the overhangs and swim throughs on all of the beautiful reefs in South Eleuthera. Massive schools of Cero mackerel patrol the wall in impressive numbers. While not for everyone, my favorite thing about July is the hammerhead shark sightings along the drop off. The sightings of this species seem to peak in July and we observe these “top of the food chain” predators on nearly every dive in July. If capturing a photograph of a hammerhead shark is on your “bucket list” you may just want to book a trip to South Eleuthera during July.

Come to South Eleuthera soon and enjoy our gracious Bahamian hospitality!
