June is here, and the water is warming up to 77 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit, which means wet suits are definitely optional. Weather is now in the summer pattern, mostly calm to light breezes, with afternoon thunderstorms; excellent diving conditions with visibility 100 feet plus. June brings with it large schools of mutton snapper, Atlantic spadefish and large schools of Cero mackerel. In June, we continue to see eagle rays down on the wall at 100 feet if you are properly trained for “deep dives”. Don’t forget your camera, as the rays are quite impressive in size and color. On the reefs, the marine life continues to be more abundant than last year, and the coral formations are expanding, attributable to the rebirth of the reefs after Hurricane Irene last August. There is a noticeable improvement in almost all the species of fish; grouper, snapper, French grunts, tropical fish, octopus and scorpion fish, the latter two being the masters of camouflage.
