South Eleuthera Diving Forecast – April 2011

South Eleuthera is an explosion of activity in April. The water is warming, and the marine life is rolling in. Lobsters have just started mating and are literally crawling all over the reefs. The big females are easy to spot with huge orange egg sacks underneath their tails. Pelagic species such as African pompano and large schools of Cero and Spanish mackerel are becoming common place along the gorgeous walls of South Eleuthera. April marks the three month anniversary of the new Fish Feed dive being developed by Ocean Fox and Cape Eleuthera Divers at Christmas Tree Reef off of Deep Creek. The six to seven friendly Caribbean reef sharks that have taken up residence there are almost a side attraction to the huge schools of yellowtail snappers and monster black grouper, or “rock fish” as we call them here. Warm water and endless visibility are just waiting for adventurous divers who are looking for uncrowded dive boats and great personal attention. See you soon!
