Giddy up anglers, it’s wahoo season in South Eleuthera! After what seems like a long summer, the wind has started to blow more frequently out of the northeast and the water temperature here is now below 80 degrees. Prime for the big wahoo that Eleuthera is noted for. So, you want to do some “catching” and not just “fishing” right? Here you go. Keep to dark colors and cover the water column to 200 feet. Ballyhoo (double rigged) with black and red skirts work well.

Remember to “rig big” or go home with just a story and not a fish. Recommendations are a 7/7 cable or at least 188 pound wire leader. These fish are big and toothy. Sixteen, 32 and 48 ounce weights will work well to get you baits down to depth. This depends on the current and your trolling speed of course. When high-speed trolling, remember to find your target speed and stick to it. The best speed will range between 10 and 16 knots.

Tight line everyone and enjoy all the adventure fishing South Eleuthera can offer.
