[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he cooler weather and water are certainly bringing the ‘hoos through South Eleuthera. Captains are reporting consistent bites from 35- to 45-pounds with a 98-pound monster being brought to the docks that was found hanging along the Bridge.
March and early April forecasts are for the wahoo bite to continue as water temps stay cool, 72 degrees on the surface with even cooler waters just below 10 feet, meaning use your down riggers! Both the mahi and tuna (black and yellow fin) bites will start to improve as the cooler weather backs off and southerly breezes pick-up again. These breezes push fish into the Exuma Sound creating great opportunities around Bamboo and Tommy’s Point. Local captains keep it simple, naked ballyhoo with an occasional skirt added, with pink Stubby Bubbler being a local favorite, behind the boat.
Captains are also forecasting an improving billfish bite as the medium-sized blues begin to arrive along the Bridge, mixed in with the occasional sailfish. Captains will slow down slightly and move to live bait. Ask the captains on the local docks how to get your hands on these little guys.
