[dropcap]H[/dropcap]ello Anglers, have been on the water almost every day for the past month. Fishing was fantastic in late February and early March and then it dropped off to nothing. Very frustrating hunting fish for four and eight hour tours for only a few fish. With my knowledge of fishing, I have found that I like the new moon better than the full moon. I believe that with the clear water of the Bahamas’ that fish feed all night on a new moon and the following day the fish are just nipping the back half of the bait. Try rigging your ballyhoo the old fashion way by running the leader wire through the anus and securing it to the leader wire with very tight wraps to keep the bait from spinning. If the bait spins, simply cut the belly a little until the bait is not shaped like a present moon. May should bring a more consistent bite. More bait, more weeds, more debris always brings more fish. Marlin are still here, along with black and yellowfin tuna. Very important to be aggressive on grab during this time of the season. Case on point—had a client hooked up to a white marlin on a pink and white Stubby Bubbler over a ballyhoo on a Penn Torque 300 Conventional with 80-pound top shot and 50-pound backing. Fish was screaming off line and headed to the shallows on the Bridge. Tried to get the fish to deep water but no luck. All we got back was the head because of sharks. When sharks are thick, tight drag and deep water might save you but mostly the sharks win.
