November is upon us already and I am so thankful to live here. From November to late February the wahoo bite can be incredible! It seems they showed up early this year.
During the second week of October we boated an 8 pound blackfin tuna, three large barracuda and a 35 pound wahoo. The wahoo was the first of the season out of Davis Harbour Marina for the season. While we were doing pre-season maintenance on the boat and had a little down-time, we saw a fellow angler who had a box full of wahoo with the largest being 73 pounds. He had fished out of Cape Eleuthera and worked Cat Island all the way back. Based on these early reports it looks like it will be a good season. The weather has been great and the water temperature is dropping below 80 degrees. Always remember – fast trolling or slow trolling, watch the drag. Fish too far away, less drag, fish close to the boat, back off the drag. These fish are big so safety first. Keep decks clear and your legs out of the way. Best colors are dark color for skirts, Kona Heads and 24 ounce fast troll lures. I like a Maurader short behind the boat on wire line.
The wahoo are here so we look forward to you spending time with us this winter.
