South Eleuthera Inshore Fishing Forecast – April 2011

Permit are slamming in the shallows of south Eleuthera this month. The fly fishing purists might not want to hear this, but the fish just can’t say “no” to live pilchards. Even on light tackle spinning gear it is a fun fight. The bonefishing is so hot right now it is hard to find a guide who is not completely booked, so if you are considering a trip in April, book as far in advance as you can. Bonefish schools numbering over a 1000 have been observed and many have been tagged by the Island School’s Flats Ecology Program. For the bigger fish, I suggest the massive flats behind Schooner Cays. It will be tougher finding the fish, so make sure your guide is not shy about burning some fuel. The results will be fish in the double-digit range rather than the typical 4 to 5 pounders.
