South Eleuthera Offshore Fishing Forecast – December 2011

The wahoo bite is on in Eleuthera.

The wahoo are really running this month. Off South Eleuthera, we have already broken the 100 pound mark twice in November, with almost every boat snatching at least a wahoo along with some scattered dolphin. One of the most wonderful things about South Eleuthera is the oceanic drop off on the west side of the island. It is only a mile from the entrance of both marinas. With the often howling winter winds from the northeast, it’s nice to know you are fishing a 4,500 foot drop off on the lee side, only a mile from shore in one of the most plentiful fisheries in the Caribbean. If knocking bottom is more your speed, get ready for some great grouper fishing. The cooling waters have forced up some of the most massive blacks and Nassau grouper you are likely ever to catch anywhere. They just can’t resist taking a “relatively” small yellowtail snapper on a circle hook, or a true Bahamian secret, trolling ballyhoo far back over some shallow (10 to 15 feet) grouper rich waters, or put a planer on in deeper waters.
