[dropcap]A[/dropcap]pril’s weather pattern brings warmer water to South Eleuthera. The water temperature will rise from March’s 74-75 degrees to 76-78 degrees by the end of the month. Four or five degrees may not sound like much but does make a difference. The large old loggerhead turtles start to show up, especially out on the wall dives. The secret to a great encounter with loggerheads or any turtle is to turn away when within 10 feet of the turtle. By doing so, the turtle, which has limited encounters with humans, does not feel threatened and will thus hang around out of curiosity to try and figure out exactly what you are doing in his/her environment. With the waters still cool from winter, the visibility is almost always 100-plus feet and offers excellent photography opportunities for both still photography and videos.

Safety tip for April: Make sure your dive computer has a new battery. It is not safe to be doing wall dives to 100 feet without a good working computer.

Fun tip for April: See who can most accurately count the number of sharks on the shark feeding dive. When you have up to 16 sharks it can be difficult.
