Fort Pierce Inshore Fishing Report and Forecast – April 2013

During April, look for the weather conditions to be better and the fishing to improve. There should be a good trout bite at places like Bear Point to the south and the Moorings Flats to the north. Try a nice pilchard as your first choice and after that try a select size shrimp fished under a popping cork. As for artificial baits you will want to try a topwater bait early in the morning like a Zara Spook or a Chug Bug. As the morning goes on try a D.O.A. Terror-Eyz or other soft plastic baits. The redfish bite should be red hot around the flats and the mangroves to the north of the North Bridge. Try a gold spoon or a soft plastic bait like a D.O.A. Glow Shrimp. For live bait use a live shrimp or a piece of cut ladyfish. Fish slow and quiet. The snook fishing should remain good in the Ft. Pierce Inlet on the falling tide. Use a live bait like a pilchard or pinfish and fish it on the bottom. Also, there should still be plenty of snook along the docks in the Ft. Pierce Inlet as well as the docks along Indian River Drive. The lighted docks will produce the most fish. The bottom fishing should remain steady around the bridges for sheepshead, black drum, sand perch and croakers. They will all take a live shrimp. Along the beaches, look for the pompano to be feeding on sand fleas and clams.
