We’re now into full swing for our summer fishing patterns. You need to get out early and be back early by around 1 pm to avoid the afternoon thundershowers. The bottom fishing should be really good for sea bass, triggerfish, snappers and groupers. Take along some squid and sardines for best results. There has also been a really good cobia bite going on in 30 to 60 feet of water. Try the artificial reefs and the navigational buoys. The cobia will eat squid, crabs and artificial jigs like red tail hawks. If you really want to catch some sport fish, tarpon will be feeding on the beach around the glass minnow schools. They will be biting on crabs, sardines and greenies. You can also catch them on a fly rod using various streamers that mimic baitfish. There should also be a good permit bite going on around the Power Plant boils. You definitely need to use crabs for them. You can catch crabs around the boat ramps and on the outgoing tide, look for small crabs floating on debris and a small dip net will work well for catching them. There is still a good dolphin bite going on too. Troll ballyhoo and artificial lures in 70 to 300 feet. Make sure you have a pitch rod ready with a chunk of squid on a #7 circle hook in case you have any followers.
