[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he snook bite in the St. Lucie River has been outstanding and should remain strong until the end of snook season, which ends on December 15th. A couple cold fronts will be on the wish list for Santa making a perfect scenario for bumping bottom around the Treasure Coast bridges with First Light Jigs. The bridges spanning the Indian River through the St. Lucie River up to the Port St. Lucie Boulevard bridges will be hot spots for targeting snook this time of year. Current flow is important and it does not matter if it’s day or night in December, they will eat if you put that jig in their face. The black drum bite has been good at the Old Roosevelt Bridge on the outgoing tide using live or dead shrimp and cut crabs. If, you’re still looking for a few tarpon they will be in the up in the canals near Club Med. In the surf and around the inlet, the bluefish and Spanish macs will be on high speed patrol looking for anything shiny and green. A couple cold fronts will drive the mother lode of Spanish macs down into the Pecks Lake area. Flashy jigs with 60-pound mono leader will fill the fish box quick. Then you can move onto the Sailfish flats or near the relief bridges for pompano. Goofy Jigs in yellow or pink are the dominant color but it all depends on the day and time so change colors if needed. When the water temps start to drop, flounder should start showing up and a small mullet on a jig head will be effective bait. Fish the channels edges and channel markers. Trout and redfish on the grass flats will be active with more schoolie trout on the flats with the bigger gators lurking in potholes and under docks and mangroves. Settle down on the Florida whip retrieve and get into a nice slow retrieve if water is cooler than normal. Keep the waterways and clean and get your Mojo on.
